Percepción y adaptación social frente a la variabilidad climática en el bosque seco del cantón Zapotillo

In this research, the objective was to generate technical-scientific information on the adaptation and management of the dry forest of the Zapotillo canton and the strategies that have been carried out to adapt. To obtain the information, two methods were applied: i) qualitative (semi-structured interview and survey) and ii) quantitative (meteorological data). The methodological strategy was carried out in three phases: i) preliminary phase, where a bibliographic review and design of instruments for the collection of primary information was carried out; ii) field phase, which consisted of the application of surveys and semi-structured interviews and iii) office phase where the treatment of meteorological data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI) was carried out, and it was evaluated with perception. The results revealed that the inhabitants of the Zapotillo canton perceive strong changes in the climate during the last 20 years attributed to anthropic activities and divine punishment; the trend of desiccation (droughts) and extreme high temperatures are the climatic drivers of the impacts of greatest concern to the population. Likewise, it was determined that there is a relationship between meteorological data and perception, associated with the experiences and livelihoods that people carry out over time. The proposed adaptation approach highlights adaptation based on ecosystems and gray infrastructure, as well as the need to diversify livelihoods and strengthen human capital on climate change issues that contribute to reducing impacts, acting on early warning signs and promote climate resilience in natural and social systems. En la presente investigación, se planteó como objetivo la generación de información técnico-científico de la adaptación y la gestión del bosque seco del cantón Zapotillo y las estrategias que se han realizado para adaptarse. Para la obtención de la información se aplicó dos métodos: i) cualitativo (entrevista semiestructurada y encuesta) y ii) cuantitativos (datos meteorológicos). La estrategia metodológica se lo realizó en tres fases: i) fase preliminar, en donde se realizó revisión bibliográfica y diseño de instrumentos de recopilación de información primaria; ii) fase de campo, que consistió en la aplicación de encuestas y entrevistas semiestructuradas y iii) fase de oficina donde se realizó el tratamiento de los datos meteorológicos del Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (INAMHI), y se evalúo con la percepción. Los resultados revelaron que los pobladores del cantón Zapotillo perciben fuertes cambios en el clima durante los últimos 20 años atribuidos a actividades antrópicas y a castigo divino; la tendencia de desecamiento (sequías) y las temperaturas altas extremas son los motores climáticos de los impactos de mayor preocupación para la población. Así mismo, se determinó que existe relación entre los datos meteorológicos con la percepción, asociado a los medios de vida y a las vivencias y que las personas realizan a lo largo del tiempo. El enfoque de adaptación propuesto destaca la adaptación basada en ecosistemas e infraestructura gris, así como la necesidad de diversificar los medios de vida y el fortalecimiento del capital humano en temas de cambio climático que contribuyan a reducir los impactos, actuar ante tempranas señales de alerta y favorecer la resiliencia climática en los sistemas naturales y sociales.
