The cabe from Cotacachi: betwen game and comunity dynamics | El Cabe de Cotacachi: entre juego y dinámica comunitaria. Un diagnóstico del Desafío del trompo

English. This article presents some results of the research performed between the years 2018-2019 in the region of Cotacachi, the main objective was the registration of the cultural expression of Cabe, or spinning top. As a research tool, the ethnographic research method was applied. Among the most important results, it is evident that this practice has developed its own characteristics in relation to other locations both in the dynamics of the game and in the elements used. In this last aspect, is characteristic the manufacture by the master carpenters of the spinning top or Cabe and the wooden disks or balls. On the other hand, although the practice of the spinning top is mostly mestizo, the indigenous presence in these spaces has been an important contribution of this sport to promote the inclusion. The spinning top game, as a distinctive cultural manifestation of Cotacachi, takes place throughout the year, with an emphasis in all souls’ day, discovering dynamics of healthy competition, both between the traditional neighborhoods of the city and in indigenous communities, fostering a sense of appropriation public space and local identity, as a fundamental part of the socio-cultural relations of Cotacachi.

Este artículo presenta algunos resultados de la investigación realizada entre los años 2018-2019 en el cantón Cotacachi, cuyo objetivo fue el registro de la expresión cultural del Cabe, o juego del trompo. Como herramienta de investigación se aplicó el método de investigación etnográfico. Entre los resultados más importantes, se evidenció que esta práctica ha desarrollado sus características propias en relación a otras localidades tanto en las dinámicas del juego, como en los elementos utilizados; en este último aspecto, es característica la fabricación, por parte de los maestros carpinteros, el trompo o Cabe y los discos de madera o bolas. Por otro lado, si bien la práctica del juego del trompo es mayoritariamente mestiza, la presencia indígena en estos espacios, ha sido un aporte importante de este deporte en favor de la inclusión. El juego del trompo, como manifestación cultural distintiva de Cotacachi, se llevan a cabo durante todo el año, con énfasis en finados, generando dinámicas de sana competencia, tanto entre los barrios tradicionales de la ciudad como en comunidades indígenas, fomentando el sentido de apropiación colectiva del espacio público y la identidad local, como parte fundamental de relaciones socioculturales de Cotacachi
