Esponjas asociadas al ecosistema rocoso (riscales y morros) del Pacífico Norte chocoano, Colombia

La sistemática de poríferos ha sido poco desarrollada en el Pacífico colombiano. Este trabajo aumenta el conocimiento de la biodiversidad de este grupo en el litoral rocoso del área norte del Departamento del Chocó, Colombia. Se confirmó la baja riqueza de especies en el POT y la predominancia de morfologías incrustantes y hábitats crípticos encontrada en otros estudios. Se identificaron 24 especies pertenecientes a 13 órdenes, 17 familias y 21 géneros. Seis especies son morfológicamente muy similares a especies del Caribe, indicando que las poblaciones posiblemente no han divergido lo suficiente desde el cierre del istmo de Panamá, o que lo han cruzado recientemente a través el canal interoceánico

The systematics of porifera has been little developed in the Colombian Pacific. This work increases the knowledge of the biodiversity of this group on the rocky coast of the northern area of the Department of Chocó, Colombia. We confirmed the low species richness in the POT and the predominance of encrusting morphologies and cryptic habitats found in other studies. We identified 24 species belonging to 13 orders, 17 families and 21 genera. Six species are morphologically very similar to Caribbean species, indicating that the populations may not have diverged sufficiently since the closure of the Isthmus of Panama, or that they have recently crossed it through the interoceanic channel
