Socioeconomic characterization of the agricultural producer in the Majes-Siguas irrigation project stage I in Arequipa, Peru | Caracterización socioeconómica del productor agropecuario en el proyecto de irrigación Majes-Siguas I Etapa en Arequipa, Perú

English. Objective: To determine the socioeconomic characteristics of the agricultural producer of the Majes-Siguas I Stage irrigation project in Arequipa, Peru. Methodology: The reference population consisted of 2,673 producers, from which a sample was taken (n=335), distributed in 5 sections of the project and a previously validated survey was applied. Results: The age characteristics of the producers differed from one section to another, with an average of 40 years. Education is mostly primary and secondary level, although there is a smaller group with higher education. They have access to five types of housing, but often of noble material in fair and good condition. The houses have some basic services, with access only to electricity or electricity and potable water services. Access to health coverage is variable, with private medical care without health coverage and also access to social security. Most of the farmers report that they are satisfied with their farming activity and are mostly owners of the agricultural unit, and consider leaving the land as an inheritance to their children. There are various forms of employment, the most common being family work + permanent and casual labor, followed by personal and casual labor, although contract work is also important. Most of the producers are not organized and have an intermediate knowledge in ecological awareness. Conclusions: Most of the farmers are individual owners, they are satisfied with the agricultural activity they carry out in the project, although they are not properly organized, with a medium knowledge of ecological awareness.

Spanish; Castilian. Objetivo: Determinar las características socioeconómicas del productor agropecuario del proyecto de irrigación Majes-Siguas I Etapa en Arequipa, Perú. Metodología: La población referencial estuvo constituida por 2 673 productores, de la que se tomó una muestra (n=335), distribuida en 5 secciones del proyecto y se aplicó una encuesta previamente validada. Resultados: Las características etáreas de los productores difieren entre una sección y otra, con una media de 40 años. La instrucción es mayormente de nivel primario y secundario, aunque hay un grupo menor que tiene educación superior. Tienen acceso a cinco tipos de vivienda, pero frecuentemente de material noble en regular y buen estado. Las viviendas cuentan con algunos servicios básicos, destaca el acceso solo a servicios de luz o servicios de luz y agua potable. El acceso a la cobertura sanitaria es variable, destacando la atención médica particular sin cobertura sanitaria y también acceso al seguro social. La mayoría de productores señalan estar conformes con la actividad agropecuaria, siendo mayoritariamente propietarios de la unidad agropecuaria, y consideran dejar el predio como herencia a sus hijos. Existen diversas formas de empleo, siendo la más frecuente el trabajo familiar + personal fijo y eventual, seguido del trabajo personal y eventual, aunque también aparece como importante el trabajo por contrato. La mayoría de los productores no están organizados y tienen un conocimiento intermedio en conciencia ecológica. Conclusiones: Los productores agropecuarios en su mayoría son propietarios individuales, están conformes con la actividad agropecuaria que realizan en el proyecto, aunque no están debidamente organizados, con un mediano conocimiento en conciencia ecológica.
