German. Biologische Pflanzenschutzverfahren nutzen lebende Organismen und biologische Wirkstoffe zur Begrenzung und Bekämpfung von Schaderregerpopulationen und gelten als besonders umweltfreundlich. Im Rahmen der europäischen und nationalen Strategien zur Reduktion des chemischen Pflanzenschutzes kommt ihnen eine besondere Bedeutung zu. Erste Forschungsaktivitäten zum Einsatz von Schlupfwespen sind in Deutschland bereits seit 1911 dokumentiert. Systematische Forschungsund Entwicklungsarbeiten wurden dann ab den 1950er Jahren am Institut für Biologischen Pflanzenschutz in Darmstadt aufgenommen und werden heute vielerorts fortgeschrieben. Vielfältige Erfolge und wiederkehrende Rückschläge kennzeichnen den langen Weg des biologischen Pflanzenschutzes von den frühen Pionierzeiten bis heute. Während bereits zahlreiche biologische Verfahren aus der heutigen Pflanzenschutzpraxis nicht mehr wegzudenken sind, wird der Pflanzenbau der Zukunft noch weitaus stärker auf biologische Pflanzenschutzverfahren setzen.

English. Biological plant protection employs living organisms and biological ingredients to control disease agents and pest populations. They are considered as highly environmentally friendly and obtained utmost importance in recent European and national strategies to reduce the use of chemical pesticides. First research activities on the use of parasitic wasps in Germany date back to 1911. From the 1950s, further systematic research and development were carried out at the Institute for Biological Control in Darmstadt. Multiple achievements and repeated throwbacks mark the long path of biological control since these early pioneering days. Today, many biological control measures are an indispensable component in the plant protection practice. Their role in future plant production systems will be even more decisive.
