The present dataset contains the complete list of bee individuals sampled for a study that investigated the effects of different pan trap diameters (upper diameter 23 cm and 12 cm, respectively) on sampled bee communities and bycatch weight. Bees were sampled in six wild flower strips around Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany in three sampling rounds (31 May – 1 June, 19 – 20 July, 26 – 27 August 2021; 24h per sampling event). In total, 1150 individuals from 69 bee species were sampled in 2021 (1147 individuals identified on a species level), including 116 honeybee (Apis mellifera) individuals and 132 bumblebee (Bombus spp.) individuals. The list of sampled bee individuals contains information on sampling details (including sampling period, pan trap colour, pan trap diameter, site), as well as information on the collected bee individuals (including operational taxon, determined genus and species based on morphological identification, sex). A second data sheet contains information on the weight of bycatch (individuals other than bees (Apoidea: Apiformes)) per pan trap sample. A third data sheet provides information on the location of the study sites.
