„Í spor risa": Áhrif alþjóðlegs skemmtiefnis á ferðamannastaði á Íslandi. | "In the footsteps of giants": Effects of international entertainment material on tourist places in Iceland.

Koma erlendra kvikmyndatökuliða og umfang verkefna þeirra hefur aukist mjög undanfarin ár hér á landi. Ísland hefur því birst sem sögusvið ýmissa sögupersóna. Kvikmyndir geta virkað sem gífurlega góð landkynning og haft mikil áhrif, sér í lagi á landsbyggðina (Ágúst Einarsson, 2012). Íslenska ríkið hefur undanfarið styrkt komu erlendra kvikmyndaverkefna hingað til lands með endurgreiðslum af hluta þess kostnaðar sem fellur til hérlendis. Þetta hefur haft í för með sér mikla aukningu í komu ferðamanna á þau svæði sem birst hafa í myndefni (Iðnaðar- og viðskiptarráðuneytið, 2015). Þættirnir um Krúnuleikanna (e. Game of thrones) voru meðal annars teknir upp við Þórufoss í Kjós, Stekkjagjá á Þingvöllum og Þjóðveldisbæinn í Þjórsárdal og er nú hægt að fara í sérstaka ferð um það svæði. Einnig tók tónlistarmaðurinn Justin Bieber upp tónlistarmyndband við flugvélaflakið á Sólheimasandi sem nýtur síaukinna vinsælda. Þessir staðir eru til rannsóknar í þessari ritgerð sem fjallar um áhorf og iðkun ferðamanna á stöðum sem birst hafa í alþjóðlegu myndefni. Lögð er áhersla á að skoða ljósmyndahegðun ferðamanna og hvort birting staðanna í myndefni hafi áhrif á áhorf og iðkun. Stuðst er við þátttökuathuganir sem framkvæmdar voru við upptökustaði Krúnuleikanna og við flugvélaflakið á Sólheimasandi. Út frá því eru gögnin greind með kenningar um áhorf, iðkun, kóreógrafíu og sviðsetningu svæða til hliðsjónar. Markmiðið er að varpa ljósi á aðrar hliðar kvikmyndaferðamennsku heldur en þær hagrænu og skoða hver áhrif birtingar svæða í myndefni eru á staðina sjálfa.

The arrival of foreign filmmakers to Iceland and the magnitude of their projects has increased through the last few years. Iceland has therefore been seen as the setting for different types of characters. Movies can play a big part in the promotion of the country, especially for the countryside (Ágúst Einarsson, 2012). Recently the Icelandic Government has been supporting the arrival of foreign filmmakers to Iceland with a partial refund of the production cost of film productions. This has led to a great increase in the arrivals of tourists to those areas that appeared on film (Iðnaðar – og viðskiptaráðuneytið, 2015). For instance the TV show Game of Thrones was filmed, among other places, at Þórufoss in Kjós, at Stekkjagjá in Þingvellir and at The Commonwealth farm in Þjórsárdalur. In addition Justin Bieber filmed one of his music videos by the plane wreck on Sólheimasandur. These places are the topic of discussion in this research which focuses on the tourist gaze and performance at locations that have appeared in international entertainment products. The emphasis is on tourist photography and whether the appearance of the places on film effects the tourist gaze and performance. The data is obtained by participant observations which were conducted at the filming locations of Game of Thrones and at the plane wreck on Sólheimasandur. After that the data is analyzed with considerations to the theories on the tourist gaze, performance, choreography and staging of the areas. The aim is to show other sides of film induced tourism than the economic sides and see what the effects of the appearance of the areas on film have on the places themselves.
