Caracterização de novas espécies de Sporothrix

O fungo Sporothrix schenckii foi considerado, por longo período, como a único agente etiológico causador da esporotricose, micose predominantemente subcutânea, de curso subagudo ou crônico. Esta micose é considerada, atualmente, uma enfermidade emergente de grande importância, sendo necessárias ações de saúde pública de caráter urgente para controla-la, principalmente em áreas endêmicas. O objetivo do trabalho foi, através da revisão da literatura, evidenciar que é possível identificar espécies novas de Sporothrix spp. com a utilização de análises filogenéticas das sequencias dos genes da Calmodulina. O fungo é termodimórfico e apresenta uma forma leveduriforme quando parasita e uma forma filamentosa quando sapróbico. Essa transição é induzida por temperatura, uma característica de adaptação morfológica fundamental que o permite infectar mamíferos. Acomete diversos animais, incluindo o homem, e tem distribuição mundial. É transmitido pela inoculação dos conídios fúngicos na pele que pode ser em decorrência de traumatismos ou ferimentos, bem como pelo contato dos conídios com a pele lesada. Os felinos, principalmente machos não castrados semidomiciliados, apresentam o maior potencial de transmissão zoonótica, pois nessa espécie há abundante quantidade do fungo nas lesões, cavidade oral e unhas, e seu comportamento de disputar território e fêmeas com outros machos, e seus hábitos de cavar e afiar as unhas em troncos, tornam estes animais importantes hospedeiros e transmissores do Sporothrix spp.

Sporothrix spp. is the causative agent of sporotrichosis, a predominantly subcutaneous mycosis of subacute or chronic course. It is considered an emergent disease of great importance, requiring urgent public health actions to control it, especially in endemic areas. For a long period S. schenckii was described as the species responsible for this disease, but, through phylogenetic analysis of the sequences of Calmodulin genes, it was possible to identify new species of Sporothrix spp. It is a thermodymorphic fungus, presenting as yeast when parasite and in mycelial form when saprophyte. This transition is temperature induced, a fundamental morphological adaptation feature that allows it to infect mammals. It affects several animals, including man, and has worldwide distribution. It is transmitted by the inoculation of fungal conidia in the skin that may be due to trauma or injury, as well as by the contact of the conidia with the injured skin. Felines, mainly semi-domiciled non-castrated males, present the greatest potential for zoonotic transmission, since in this species there is abundant amount of fungus in the lesions, oral cavity and nails, and their behavior of disputing territory and females with other males, and their habits of digging and sharpening the nails into trunks, make these animals important hosts and transmitters of Sporothrix spp.
