The reaction of maleic anhydride addition to ionol-stabilized divinyl-acetylene polymers in a commercial lacquer ethynol product over a temperature range of 80–190°C in hydrocarbon and aprotic polar solvents has been studied. By IR spectroscopy, gas-liquid chromatography methods and chemical analysis of polymer double bonds and anhydride groups has been shown that maximum degree of addition is about 7 mol%. The obtained results have shown that maleic anhydride adds to divinylacetylene polymers at the end vinylacetylene groups of a molecule, probably by a diene synthesis reaction.
