Biological and chemical alternatives for the management of black Sigatoka (Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet) in banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) in Rivas, Nicaragua | Alternativas biológicas y químicas para el manejo de la Sigatoka negra (Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet) en cultivo de plátano (Musa paradisiaca L.) en Rivas, Nicaragua

The objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of Trichoderma sp and Bacillus subtilis, a mixture of the two, and the chemical NATIVO® SC 300 for the management of black Sigatoka in Tola municipality, Rivas. Black Sigatoka is a disease caused by the fungus Mycosphaerella fijiensis, the most prevalent and destructive pathogen of Musaceae. Biological control techniques have been implemented to avoid contamination of water sources and adverse health effects due to the use of chemicals. In relation to the control of the disease, the bioformulation that presented the best results was the base mixture of Trichoderma sp plus Bacillus subtilis with 30.26% of severity, followed by the formulation of Trichoderma sp, with 34.45% and the chemical control NATIVO® SC 300 with 36.09% of severity, without presenting significant differences with the chemical and biological controls. The variables evaluated in this study were the percentage of incidence, severity, and Area Under the Disease Progress Curve of Sigatoka damage per plant. Among the main results, Mycosphaerella was identified as the main pathogenic agent of diseases associated with this crop in Rivas, Nicaragua. It was found that the prevalence and growth of the disease occurred during the dry season. It is demonstrated that the use of biological organisms to control the disease is as effective as chemical ones and safer for the environment and public health.

El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el desempeño de Trichoderma sp y Bacillus subtilis, una mezcla de los dos y el producto químico NATIVO® SC 300 para el manejo de la Sigatoka negra en el municipio de Tola, Rivas. Sigatoka negra es la enfermedad producida por el hongo Mycosphaerella fijiensis, patógeno de mayor prevalencia y destrucción de las musáceas. Para evitar la contaminación de las fuentes de agua, así como efectos adversos a la salud por el uso de químicos, se han implementado técnicas de control biológico. En º1resultados fue la mezcla base de Trichoderma sp más Bacillus subtilis con un 30.26% de severidad, seguido por la formulación de Trichoderma sp, con un 34.45% y el control químico NATIVO® SC 300 con 36.09% de severidad, sin presentar diferencias significativas con los controles químico y biológico. Las variables evaluadas en este estudio fueron porcentaje de incidencia, severidad y Área Bajo la Curva de Progreso de la Enfermedad de daño de Sigatoka por planta. Entre los principales resultados, se identificó Mycosphaerella como el principal agente patógeno de enfermedades asociadas a ese cultivo en Rivas, Nicaragua. Se encontró que la prevalencia y crecimiento de la enfermedad ocurrió en época seca. Se demuestra que el uso de organismos biológicos para controlar la enfermedad es igual de efectiva que los químicos y más seguro para el medio ambiente y salud pública.
