Miositis de músculos masticatorios en un canino West Highland White Terrier: reporte de caso

El presente informe describe la miositis de los músculos masticatorios en caninos a través del abordaje del caso clínico de una hembra, de raza West Highland White Terrier, de 4 años de edad. Para la realización del trabajo se consultaron numerosas fuentes bibliográficas actualizadas en los mecanismos fisiopatológicos, métodos de diagnóstico y tratamiento de esta enfermedad para construir un marco teórico. El paciente de este informe se presentó a la Clínica Veterinaria de la Universidad de La Salle, perdió por pérdida bilateral de masa muscular en maseteros y temporales, y con historial de dificultad para abrir la boca de 2 semanas de evolución; signos clínicos compatibles con miositis de músculos masticatorios. El diagnóstico definitivo se realizó mediante histopatología y su terapia base fue prednisolona con un control favorable de los signos clínicos. Posteriormente se realizó un contraste, análisis y discusión entre lo encontrado en la literatura consultada y el manejo del caso clínico reportado.

This report is intended to describe the canine masticatory muscle myositis by addressing the case of a 4 years old, West Highland White Terrier, female dog. To carry out this job numerous literature sources were consulted on pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment to construct a theoretical framework. The patient in this report presented to the Veterinary Hospital of the University of La Salle. The patient showed bilateral loss of muscle mass in masseter and temporal muscles, and a 2-week history of difficulty in opening the mouth. All of these are signs compatible with masticatory muscle myositis. The final diagnosis was made by histopathological changes found, and the treatment consisted in the administration of predisolone with a favorable outcome. Subsequently contras, analysis and discussion between the findings in the literature and the clinical case management reported were performed.
