Effects of glyphosate and dalapon on maize (Zea mays L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) and their residues in soil [Thailand]

The result showed that both maize and sorghum at all ages were not affected by soil application, but soil and foliar application and foliar application affected maize and sorghum at all ages that they were dead within 3 to 7 days. For dalapon, all applications inhibited growth of maize and sorghum of all ages. Another experiment was conducted to determine the effects of both glyphosate and dalapon on their incorporation into soil at the depth of 3, 6 and 9 cms. The glyphosate concentration were 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 kg ai per raii and the dalapon concentration were 1.8, 2.7 and 3.6 kg ai per rai. The glyphosate incorporation showed no effect on the growth of maize and sorghum at all levels of concentration and soil depth. Meanwhile dalapon at almost all levels of concentration and soil depth inhibited the growth of maize and sorghum. However, at 2.7 kg ai per raii concentration of dalapon and all levels of soil depth, only maize remained in a normal condition. The last experiment was conducted to determine the dalapon residues in the soil under maize and sorghum after 30 days of its application, and in the soil incorporated with it for 15 and 21 days. The determination of dalapon residues showed that there was only little amount of dalapon left in the soil under maize and sorghum in all applications. However, there was large dalapon residues left in the soil dalapon mixture at all levels of concentration and soil depth
