Tolerance of young oil palm to glycophosate [Malaysia; herbicide]

In three large-scale randomized block trials in oil palms seven, seventeen and twenty-two months after transplanting, glyphosate (Roundup) was repeatedly applied by directed sprays at 1.55, 3.1 and 6.2 liters per hectare. The control treatments consisted of repeated handweeding or repeated spraying with a standard mixture of Gramoxone (1.4 litres) + Ansar 529M (4.2 litres) + Karmex (0.25 kg) per hectare. The results showed that oil palms are quite tolerant to directed sprays of Roundup. No adverse effects were observed in measurements on the length of the fronds, the number of new fronds produced during the first twelve months of trials, or in the yields of fresh fruit bunches during the recording period of fifteen months
