Economic value of chosen varieties and strains of brewing barley

The agricultural value of 16 foreign varieties and strains of barley and of 4 home-bred strains of that crop was estimated on the basis of the grain yield, grain wholeness, resistance to lodging and the fungal diseases. The brewing value was estimated basing on determination of the protein content in grain, the malt extractivity, cytologic loosening, solubility of protein compounds and activity of amylolytic enzymes. The highest grain yield was reached by the following varieties: Q-448, Adora, Rapid, Grit, HVS 61 946/76 and HE 1140. The STH 575/76 strain reached a high economic value
