Sobaegbyeo is an early maturing rice cultivar developed from a cross between Akitsu and Fuji 269. It had relatively short plant height and lodging resistance, longer panicle and more spikelets/panicle than that of Matsumae, telerance to cold injury as a japonica-type rice cultivar. Its resistance to cold injury stronger than that of Matsumae or Reimei either under the field conditions or in the Upland nursery test. Sobaegbyeo showed high yield potential comparable to Reimei at normal and heavy fertilizer application levels in the middle altitude and alpine area
