Carcass yield of broilers
1984
Engku Azahan
Carcass yield values in 8-week old broiler chickens obtained from 14 separate samplings in 1981, 1982 and 1983 were accumulated and reported. The sampled birds comprised equal number of males and females. Preslaughter live weights and absolute carcass weights for each sex showed no appreciable difference between sampling years. Male birds and their carcasses however, were consistently heavier than the respective weights for females, the superiority amounting to some 20 percent. eviscerated yield percent and edible yield percent differed very little between sexes and between and between sampling years. Absolute yield of carcass for males has always been heavier than females although as a percentage of live weight no such superiority was observed. The recovery of carcasses or meat per unit live weight is superior to those cattle, goat, sheep and pig.
