Conserving soil nitrogen and increasing productivity by growing azolla simultaneously with rice

The utility of Azolla as green manure for rice and the extent to which the use of commercial nitrogen fertilizers can be reduced were examined in the present study. Application of Azolla to rice fields retained higher soil nitrogen at all stages of growth. Yield of rice was also higher in plots receiving Azolla and NPK than plots with NPK alone
