Fattening of lambs of merino breed up to higher body weights

The biological effect of fattening lambs under the conditions of Vojvodina was investigated. Meals with various digestible raw proteins contents, with various ratio of concentrate and forage were used. The experiment had 3 variants:group 1 was given alfalfa and oats silage and concentrate mixture A (corn chop 50%, 37% soybean oil meal, 10% dehydrated alfalfa, 1% bone meal and 1% premix, i.e. 0.88 kg of dry matter, 203 g of digestible raw proteins with net energy value 7.06 MJ). Group 2 was given alfalfa hay and concentrate mixture B (67% corn chop, 20% soybean oil meal, 10% dehydrated alfalfa, 1% salt, 1% bone meal and 1% premix, i.e. 0.88 kg of dry matter, 137 g of digestible raw proteins with net energy value 7.24 MJ). Group 3 was given only mixture B. The experimental fattening lasted 56 days. The highest live weight gain was achieved by the lambs of group 1. The difference, compared with group 2 was 11.1% (P less than 0.05) and compared with group 3 - 24.2% (P less than 0.001). Adding forage component influenced feed consumption favourably. The best net energy conversion was reached by the lambs of group 1. This effect was 13.05% better compared with group 2 and 21.47% better compared with group 3. Regarding dressing percentage, the best result was found with lambs fed with high concentrate meal (3). With intensive lamb fattening under the conditions of field-farming regions good biological effects of the concentrate mixture with about 14% digestible raw proteins can be achieved.
