This paper discusses the reasons for establishing a collection of computer-readable information and a microcomputer facility in an agricultural research library. It provides an overview of the considerations for selecting microcomputer software and data files for both microcomputers and mainframe computer. Recent developments in standardized cataloguing practices, and policies governing loan procedures are also outlined
