Tissues representing different components of the central and peripheral nervous system obtained from six irreparable cases of diaphragmatic hernia were examined microscopically. Primary lesions were noticed in the phrenic and vagus nerves, dorsal vagal nuclei of the medulla and the celiaco mesenteric ganglion. Secondary changes occurred in the spinal cord, cerebral and cerebellar cortices
