Rubber pods inoculated under favourable weather conditions showed early establishment of the disease and produced a large number of sporangia over a long period, but under adverse climatic conditions disease establishment was prolonged and the period of sporangial production was shortened. Sporangia were able to proliferate on relatively dry pod surfaces and in the presence of secondary fungi. A small quantity of water was sufficient to disseminate the sporangia but only a small proportion of it was capable of releasing zoospores
