Liming of grassland in south west Norway. II. Liming materials and application frequency
1985
Haaland, Aa. (Statens Forskingsstasjon Saerheim, Klepp (Norway))
Different liming materials applied initially (2 t CaO/ha) or annually (0.4 t CaO/ha) were compared at 16 sites over 5 years. No significant differences were found in grass yields between ground limestone, granulated ground limestone, burnt lime and three types of lime slag. Herbage P, Mg, K and Na contents were not affected by liming. All materials strongly increased the Ca content. Burnt lime and lime slag, however, had significantly less effect than the other materials. Differences between the liming materials' ability to raise soil pH were found only in the surface 5 cm, where lime slag had the greatest effect. At the end of the experimental period annual liming gave higher yields than initial application
