Carcass and product quality evaluation of broilers and layers fed with hydrolyzed feather meal

The study made use of 56 broilers and 420 freshly laid eggs which were obtained from the results of the study on the processing and utilization of feather meal for poultry. Assessment on the carcass and cut-up yield of broilers showed that addition of 0.2 to 0.5% D1-methionine to the feed formula resulted to a better quality carcass and higher cut-up yield. When processed as ham, the chicken fed with the above formulation revealed a better appearance of lean in terms of color. Eggs from the layers fed with DL-methionine were heavier because their shells were thicker. The color of egg yolk were more preferred (number 7) compared to that without DL methionine.
