Progress report on breeding and selection of desirable tobacco hybrids
1983
Agurita, F.R.
Hybrids and parents varieties were evaluated for yield, desirable agronomic characteristics and resistance to pests and diseases. Results of such tests showed that H-4/S2 (Golden Harvest x Yellow Special) was the highest yielder followed by H-33/S1 (Hicks (BAT) x Golden Harvest), H-7/S1 (Golden Harvest x Giant Coker) and H-10/S2 (Dixie Bright 102 x Yellow Special). Except H-33/S1, all these hybrids produced the best quality leaves. H-10/S1 was the tallest, having the longest and biggest middle internodes. It produced the least number of leaves but produced the broadest and largest area of middle standard leaves. H-4/S2 and H-33/S1 were resistant while H-7/S1 and H-32/S1 were the most susceptible to pests and diseases
