Husmillo, F.R. | Dosayla, R.D. (Philippine Sugar Commission, La Granja, La Carlota City)
Percent germination and growth components of treated plants were not influenced by the different rates of fungicide and dipping time. The response of the treated plants were comparable with the control. Similarly, yield parameters such as tonnage, sugar content and sugar yield were not significantly affected although maximum yield of 108.83 tons/ha and 175.21 piculs/ha were obtained at higher dosage (1000 ppm) with dipping time of 30 minutes. Control plot produced low tonnage and sugar yield compared with other treatments. High yield was somewhat related to low smut incidence. Fungicide 63444-01 significantly reduced the smut incidence in the plant when setts were treated in 750 ppm solution for 5 minutes. Lowest smutted stools and tillers of 0.84% and 0.13%, respectively were noted on the treatment
