Verification on the effect of row spacing and irrigation frequency in the performance of flue-cured tobacco at different times of planting

The time of planting affected almost all parameter except grade index and crop value. Early planting produced plants with the most number of harvested leaves (30), highest yield (3.1t/ha) and highest reducing sugar content (23.6%). Longest (62.8 cm), and thickest leaves (1.88 mg/cm2) were obtained from plants planted in December while the broadest leaves (23.9 cm) and highest nicotine content (0.69%) were obtained from plants set in January. Plants set at closer spacing (80 cm) produced higher yield (2.94t/ha) and crop value (35,522 pesos/ha). Irrigation frequency did not show any pronounced effect on the different plant characteristics measured. Row spacing and irrigation frequency interaction significantly affected nicotine content.
