Eliminating lower most leaves did not have marked effect on cured leaf yield, specific leaf weight, quality index and crop value. However, cured yield tended to be high when two leaves were eliminated. Other agronomic characters such as leaf size, length of internode, stalk diameter and days to flower were not affected by leaf elimination. Result between the topped and untopped plants did not differ significantly
