Once-over nitrogen application was more beneficial for maize yields than split dressings. The best effect was brought about by top dressing at the 3rd to 4th leaf stage. The 1000-grain weight was significantly reduced when the whole nitrogen dosage was applied in autumn. The climate conditions had a greater effect on maize yields than the factors under study
