The quality of boles mechanically limbed and criteria for evaluation of the quality of limbing were discussed. It was assumed, that the angle of the edge, angle of cutting and force of the pressure had the decisive impact on the quality of limbing when using passive knives. It was stated that mechanical limbing with utilization of passive knives did not fulfil requirements of the standard being in force in Poland, even at the very careful selection of parameters of the device
