Comparison of the efficiency of breaking tuber dormancy with some chemicals

The chemicals actually used in Poland for breaking tuber dormancy were compared for their usefulness in tuber indexing. Gibberellic acid (GA) as Polish commercial product Giberescol, mixture of 1 ppm GA and 1% thiourea, mixture of 1 ppm GA and 1 ppm kinetin were tested. The rate of eye germination, measured by the number of days from treatment till 70% germination, was similar for all products tested. The three chemicals produced similar number of plants from treated eyes. However, the mixture of GA and thiourea produced significantly higher number of fully developed plants as compared to other products
