1984
Nopporn Boonyakanoke
A study was conducted on the different planting methods direct seedling and bare root and their effects on the yield and root shape of transplanting the Chinese radish. Seedlings were transplanted at 18 days old with three leaves. Plants were harvested at 46 days old. There were no differences in the leaves' weight, number, width and height, but there was difference in the yield of the roots. Direct seedling treatment gave an average of 400 gm. of root weight, 25.1 cm. in root length, 17.7 cm. in root perimeter and top/root ratio was 0.67:1. Bared root transplanting treatment gave an average of 188 gm. root weight, 15.7 cm. in rootlength, 14.2 cm. in root perimeter and top/root ratio was 1.38:1. Bared root transplanting treatment decreased the yield at 51.3 percent. All roots gave branches.
