The coefficient values of heredity for quality of pig halves are high, and they vary within the range of 0,22 for the weight of bones, 0,46 for the total weight of the fat matter and 0,56 for the total content of meat in the pig halves. The coefficient values of the genetic variability are high and correspond to those of the fattening characteristics, and are somewhat higher than the value of the variability of the reproductive properties. Such high values of heredity and genetic variability of the quality of the pig halves indicate the possibility of a faster genetic progress applying selection in pure race, breeding between lines and races, recombining genes with greater genetic variability for given properties within a farm population. Further more, the evaluations of content and effect of additive genes, as well as the ecological components of variety in the constitution of qualitative properties of pig halves weighing about 100 kg will enable a closer study not only of the way of inheriting these properties, but the choice and application of selection methods in various systems and directions of breeding as well.
