Effect of red mud on skeleton soil

It was investigated the effect of red mud which content showed that it was clayey and sandy soil with 11,03% of dust and 12,07% of clay and with chemical formulas for compound : pH in KCL 7,80, content of organic substance 0,12%, CaCO3 4,95%, available P2O5 11,50mg/100g of soil. The red mud was used in the dose of 10,20 and 30t/h in combination with fertilizers and without it. The experimental crop was spring barley of the cultivar "Union" with 96% germination. During the experiment with appliance of red mud, the violet colour of stalks which appeared if the crop was not fertilized with "O" has disappeared, which could be explained by "Fertilized effect" of red mud on the fertilized variant and with increased mineral nutrition. The increasement of mud dose affected positively the root system. By increasing the dose it was forming the longer and stronger root which could easely be departed from substrate with bigger root mass, and which also affected the growth of above ground portions. The increased mud dose positively affected the growth of plant with wider and luxuriant leaves. In combination with fertilizers the plant was luxuriant. It was also found the increasement of moisture in substrate, i.e. less loss of water, both in combination with fertilization and without it. The mud appliance affected the reduction of plant height, but the total mass was increased. As far as the chemical characteristics of the soil was concerned there was the next conclusion : it was increased the content of available nutrients in combination with mud; pH was changed. The content of humus was small and not changed and water retention was not considerably increased.
