Assessment of effects of maize streak virus on yield of maize

Under natural field infection, maize streak virus (MSV) disease caused substantial yield losses in three commercial maize varieties in Zimbabwe. There were close relationships between streak incidence and yield loss, and between yield loss and time of infection. Infection occurring within eight weeks after emergence was critical and resulted in heavy losses in all the cultivars used.
