Study on cowpea-mustard mixed cropping at varying seeding ratios [in Hathazari, Chittagong, Bangladesh]
1986
Hashem, Abul | Quasem, A.
Cowpea and mustard mixed cropping at varying seeding ratios was carried out on an upland plot of Hathazari farm during December 1983 to May 1984. The seeding ratios included 100% cowpea (C) + 25% mustard (M), 100% C + 50% M, 100% C + 75% M, 100% C + 100% M, 25% C + 100% M, 50% C + 100% M, 75% C + 100%M, 50% C + 50% M, cowpea alone (100%) and mustard alone (100%). Highest cowpea grain yield (1120 kg/ha) was obtained from monoculture cowpea and highest mustard grain yield (837 kg/ha) was obtained from 100% C + 25% M mainly through highest number of pod per plant (49). Highest total grain yield was obtained from 100% C + 25% M which also gave highest land equivalent ratio (1.56). Highest net return (Tk. 4488/ha) and highest benefit cost ratio (2.96) were obtained from 100% C + 25% M. The net return of this treatment was 67% and 132% higher than those of monoculture cowpea and monoculture mustard respectively
