Reasons for disposal and age specific disposal rates of cross-bred cows in Bangladesh Agricultural University Dairy Farm

The data of 145 culled cows were collected from the records of cross bred cows in Bangladesh Agricultural University Dairy Farm, Mymensingh. The animals were culled during a period of ten years from 1974 to 1983. Parasitic infestation was the largest single reason, accounting for 22.0% of the total disposals. Reproductive disorders, mastitis and pneumonia were major problems which collectively accounted for 33.1% of the total disposal and only due to pneumonia was 13.1% which was the second highest among the deaths. Animals affected with parasitic infestation and pneumonia were culled at young ages where as animal with mastitis low producers and of other reasons were culled at the older ages. A highly significant (P0.01) chi-square at contigency of 111.9 indicated that there was a relationship between the age of the cows and the reasons for their disposal. 0
