Soil and foliar fertilizer to break corn yield barriers in Belize
1981
Smith, J. (Ministry of Agriculture and Lands (Belize))
Historically, corn yields in Belize have been relatively low, i.e. 1,500-3,000 lbs/acre. The Department of Agriculture and CARDI jointly carried out an experiment on 3 varieties of corn, combined with 3 levels of soil fertilizer and foliar fertilizer. Tissue (foliar) analysis showed an increase in micronutrient content after fertilizer application. Only the hybrid variety Pioneer X-306 showed a notable increase in yield (1,400 lbs/acre) with the highest fertilizer application
