Performance evaluation of purebred and crossbred lambs

A total of 2842 records on birth weight, weaning weight and 105-day weight of purebred and crossbred Chios and Awassi lambs were used to study heterotic and maternal effects on lamb growth. Individual heterosis was estimated as the difference of the mean of both parents from the average of reciprocal crosses. The highest heterotic effect was for weaning weight (7.5%) and the lowest for birth weight (6.3%)
