This study considers three mountain soils located in the "Picos de Europa" that develop on different materials and below different vegetation. As a common characteristic these soils present a marked similitude in their colour and dominating in all of them hues 5YR. Analytic and granulometric data, total capacity and base - exchangeable cations, organic matter and its fractions, and forms of iron are obtained in the three profiles, in order to discuss the processes that have taken place in each of them. Finally they are classified according to FAO-UNESCO: Chromic Luvisol and Humic Cambisols
