Biochemical changes during germination of lentil seed (Lens culinaris L.)
1985
Paul, Y. | Singh, R. (Punjab Agricultural Univ., Ludhiana (India). Dept. of Biochemistry)
The seeds were soaked for 10 hrs in water, 50 ppm GA3, 10 ppm ABA and 50 ppm GA3 + 10 ppm ABA to study the nitrogen and the protein changes during germination. There was greater decrease of the nitrogen content on 3rd day of germination with GA treated sample. The ABA did not show any effect on the total nitrogen, the protein and the hexosamine contents. The degradation of glycoproteins appears to parallel that of the total proteins. There was no change of hemagglutinin activity over 7 days of germination. No hemagglutinin activity was seen either in the seed coat or the embryos
