Response of some rabi sorghum cultivars to nitrogen on deep black soil under drought conditions

The increase was the highest for CSH 8R and the lowest for M 35-1 showing the tendency of the high-yielding cultivars to utilize applied N more for grain than for stover. The superiority of CSH-8R in responding to applied nitrogen for grain production followed by SPV 86 and M 35-1 is clearly seen. The present trial clearly shows that yields of rabi sorghum can be substantially increased on deep Vertisols by applying nitrogen (50 kg/ha to high yielding cultivars even under adverse rainfall conditions in the drought prone region of the state
