Protein content of sorghum and groundnut intercropping system as influenced by various moisture regimes under summer conditions

The protein content and protein yield of sole crop of sorghum and groundnut and mixed stand of both the crops were assessed during summer conditions. It was observed that the protein content of sorghum grown in association with intercrop of groundnut was maximum and substantially more than the sole sorghum. Almost similar trend was observed in the case of protein yield. The sole groundnut gave significantly higher content and yield of protein than the intercropped groundnut. The association of groundnut with sorghum improved the yield of protein/unit area compared to either sole crop of sorghum or groundnut. The protein content decreased with increased number of irrigations. The yield of protein, however, increased with increased frequency of irrigation although, the content of protein decreased
