Nutritive value of silage of a bajra-napier hybrid enriched with urea and molasses [Pennisetum typhoids]

The nutritive values of three kinds of silage of PBN 83 (a bajra-napier hybrid), i.e. silage without any treatment; silage treated with 1% each of urea and molasses (T-1) and silage treated with 1.5% each of urea and molases (T-2) were evaluated by feeding each one of these silages as a sole ration to crossbred bulls. The crude protein content of the three kinds of silages were 8.09, 12.55 and 16.09% respectively. However, the CF, EE, ADF and hemicellulose contents remained unaffected. The digestibility coefficients of the crude protein of the silages, which increased significantly (P0.05) due to enrichment with urea and molasses were 52.12, 67.16 and 78.04% in the control, T-1 and T-2 groups, respectively. It may be concluded that PBN 83 silage can be used as a complete maintenance ration for crossbred bulls. The improvement in the nutritive value of PBN 83 silage by treating it with urea and molasses also holds promise for its use as an economic production ration
