Effect of storage temperature, halazone and bleaching powder on survival of bacteria in a well-water (in Iraq)
1984
Mosleh, R. | Kadhim, A.A. (Baghdad Univ. (Iraq). Coll. of Science)
The storage of a well water for 7 days at 5,22 and 37 deg C found to increase the number of total aerobic bacteria, E. Coli. type I during the first three days. Fecal streptococci numbers remained constant. The bacteria were able to survive at 5 deg C longer than any of the other two temperatures. Halazone was more effective than bleaching powder. 50 mg/1 of halazone (2ppm Chlorine) was able to kill all bacteria within one hour, while it took 2 hours with the bleaching powder when added at a rate of 10 mg/1 which release a similar concentration of Chlorine (2ppm)
