Soil physical properties of the nationwide high-yielding paddy fields

This study was conducted to find out ideal soil physical properties of the high-yielding paddy fields. Environmental factors and soil physical properties were investigated and rice yields of thirty four paddy fields, high-yielding winners during 1983 to 1984, were collected. High-yielding paddy fields were mainly distributed at gentle slopes with southern aspect and the drainage classes were moderately well to imperfectly drained. The clay content of the high-yielding paddy soils was 17.2 % in average and the water holding days were ranged from 2 to 7 days and the major irrigation water sources were river, stream and reservoirs
