Propagation of single-node pepper [Piper nigrum] cuttings
1986
Sim, S.L. (Jabatan Pertanian, Kuching, Sarawak (Malaysia))
In time of shortage of planting material in pepper, there is a need to improve the efficiency of the conventional propagation method of stem cuttings. This is an intermediate measure before a micro-propagation technique through tissue culture is perfected for mass multiplication of planting material especially from new promising pepper genotypes. Various concentration of plant growth regulators, NAA and IBA and their combinations were used. Single-node cuttings treated with these plant growth regulators were rooted in peat, sand and peat: sand mixture. The highest percentage of rooting was obtained in cuttings treated with 0.2% (2000 ppm) X - NAA. Peat was found to be a good medium for rooting and root growth.
