Assessment of three levels of insect control on lowland transplanted rice [Philippines]
1985
Pulmano, A.L. (Regional Crop Protection Center, Region 9, Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga de Sur (Philippines))
The trial was conducted in three farmer's field in Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur [Philippines], during the dry season of 1984 (January to May) to determine which of the three levels of insect control produced optimum crop yield at maximum cost. Protected plants produced significantly higher grain yield over the untreated control. Comparable grain yield was attained on protected plants, calendar spraying yielded highest, followed by farmer's practice and threshold plots, respectively. However, highest net return was attained with farmer's pests control practice and ETL [Economic Threshold Level]-based spraying. Relationship on damaged incidence to yield components and grain yield showed that plants that were exposed to natural infestation produced fewer number of tillers and panicles per hill, shorter plant stand and had the highest percentage reduction in yield
