Influence of ageing of wood on its sorption properties

Effect of 40 cycles of accelerated ageing on wood sorption was studied. Ageing consisted of 24 hours of soaking in water of 293 degrees K, 12 hours drying in air flow of 343 degrees K and 1 m per s, 4 hours being also an exposure to ultraviolet radiation 40 times stronger than natural one. Experiments proved to change hygroscopic properties insignificantly. Slight changes were caused by bursts in cell walls increasing internal surface of wood
