A decrease in albumin concentration and an increase in globulins content was observed in blood of cows before and after calving. A decline in glucose content and a rise in bilirubin concentration was noted following parturition. In calves an increase in concentrations of globulins, bilirubin and glucose was found during the first 24 h of their life. Cows subjected to the caesarean section showed higher activity of aspartate and alanine aminotransferases in arterial blood than in venous blood
