Some cow fertility indices in various systems of keeping

The fertility of cows in 4 large state was compared with that in 19 small family farms. The intercalving period in all farms was longer than 100 days. The mean service period in state farms was longer than in family farms. On the other hand in the farms with high milk performance of cows (about 3,500 kg of milk) the period between parturition and the first insemination was shorter than in family farms. Less seasonal fluctuations in the number of calvings occurred in family farms
